Astrophysicists from the Max Planck Institute for extraterrestrial Physics (MPE) and the European Southern Observatory in Germany, as well as the SRON Netherlands Institute for Space Research used the XMM-Newton X-ray space observatory to observe a filament of dense gas connecting two clusters of galaxies, Abell 222 and Abell 223.
