Navigation for Spaceships Using X-ray Pulsars: Introducing XNAV

Using pulsars as an interstellar navigation tool could be the ultimate galactic GPS system. With accuracy as good as an atomic clock, these spinning neutron stars emit directional pulses of X-rays into space that are now well known by the astronomical community. Now these interstellar beacons may be used to get a fix on the position of spacecraft and guide them around space, like the GPS system allows cars, boats and airplanes on Earth. (read more)
